The Suzuki Method
The Suzuki method is an educational philosophy which strives to create "high ability" and beautiful character in its students through a nurturing environment. Its primary vehicle for achieving this is music education on a specific instrument.
The central belief of Suzuki is that all people can (and will) learn from their environment. Thus, the essential components of the method spring from the desire to create the right environment for learning music. These components include:
- Learning music by ear before learning to read music
- Regularly playing in groups
- Reviewing learned music on a regular basis, in order to raise technical and musical ability
- Frequent public performance, so that performing is natural and enjoyable
- Saturation in the musical community
- Deliberate avoidance of musical aptitude tests or "auditions" to begin music study
- Using teachers trained in using the Suzuki materials and philosophy
- Discouraging competitive attitudes between players, and advocating mutual encouragement
The parent of the young student is expected to supervise instrument practice every day (instead of leaving the child to practice alone between lessons) and to attend and take notes at every lesson to be able to coach the student effectively. It is not necessary for the parent to be able to play; only that the parent knows from the lessons what the child should be doing and how the child should be doing it.
Suzuki Group Classes
An integral part of the Suzuki Method is the group experience. We offer weekly
group class in addition to the weekly private lesson. The group format
encourages students to develop listening and ensemble skills with fellow
students. Group class makes review fun and provides motivation for students to
learn by observing others. The Academy offers several public performances in
the metropolitan area during the school year. Performing
venues include The Southeastern Flower Show, Phipps Plaza at the
Holidays, The Atlanta Symphony Showcase of Homes, and Callanwolde. These
public performances include all levels and ages.
Currently, the Suzuki Twinkle class is on Monday at 4:00-4:30.
The Suzuki Book 1 and 2 Class is on Monday at 4:30-4:45.
The cost of group per half year is $170.00.
