Do I have to wait until the beginning of a semester to start lessons?
You may start at any time provided that the lesson time availability works for you and the teacher. We will prorate the bill if you start in the middle of the month.
Do I need my own instrument to take lessons?
Yes, in order to practice at home. It is possible to rent instruments as well as purchase. Your teacher can advise you on the pros and cons of renting vs. purchasing and guide you toward the right level instrument that is appropriate for your needs.
During the summer, do I need to take every week in order to register?
No. The summer session runs from June through July. You book specific days and times to work around vacations. Each teacher has a recommended lesson minimum required in their studio.
Is my lesson time always the same day and time?
Yes. During the school year (late August through May) the student has a standing appointment time with their teacher weekly.
How do recitals work at the Academy?
The Academy offers monthly recitals during the school year on Sunday afternoons. We encourage a variety of students from different instrument disciplines to participate on any given recital hour. This encourages a variety of instrument performance, ages, and levels. The teacher signs the student up when prepared with the agreement of the parent.
Is the Academy calendar the same as the Westminster Schools?
The Academy attempts to follow the Westminster schedule for major holiday breaks. We are open sometimes when Westminster is closed in order to reach an equal lesson count for all days of the week by the end of each semester. Therefore, some Monday holidays we need to be open. A yearly calendar is posted at the beginning of the year.
Can I switch my lesson day and time if an ongoing conflict develops?
We will attempt to switch lesson times as schedules permit. We cannot guarantee a change but will make an effort to help make the change when it is possible with the teacher’s schedule.
Are there outside opportunities to perform as an Academy student?
Yes. Our Suzuki Violin Groups perform around Atlanta at events like the Southeastern Flower Show, The Sandy Springs Festival and at Phipps Plaza.
Some teachers have students involved in The Royal Associated Board program which requires performance and theory tests to pass through curriculum levels.
In addition, faculty members also have students perform Music Educators Association competitions.
