Frequently Asked Questions - Classes

Musical Beginnings

How is Musical Beginnings different from Mommy & Me?
The Musical Beginnings class is a 50 minute class instead of 30 minutes. It also includes more curriculum, more sophisticated orchestral instruments, musical storytelling, and music theory.

Do I attend the class with my child?
The Musical Beginnings class is only for the child and their peers. This is a good learning experience for the children to learn how to interact with the teacher and other students. There is no penalty or obligation for doing a trial lesson. We find that the children are more open to input by the teacher and are more engaging with their classmates as well.

How do I know if my child is ready for this class?
You are welcome to take a trial class to see how your child responds to a class setting. Doing so will help determine whether your child is ready for this format. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for the child to feel comfortable in the new surrounding and with other children.

Can we start in the middle of the month?
Yes. You may start at any time. We will prorate the bill accordingly.

Is the lesson plan the same each time?
We offer a new lesson plan for each week during the entire academic year as well as for the summer classes.

Do children usually start private music lessons after graduating from Musical Beginnings Class?
Yes. Often, students will develop an interest in a specific instrument introduced in our class. The faculty is happy to consult with parents about their child’s interests and strengths in choosing a specific instrument.

“Both of my daughters started with the Musical Beginnings classes to play and learn music, instruments, and basic music theory in a fun way. They now take piano and Suzuki violin lessons and have very kind and patient teachers who emphasize good musical technique. ”
