Ryan Burruss, Piano/Guitar
Having performance and compositional experience in both classical and rock/jazz music, Ryan approaches piano and guitar lessons with the goal of creating multifaceted and well-rounded students capable of playing both the music of other composers/bands as well as improvising or composing their own, all via a hands-on and practical knowledge of music theory.
Ryan has earned composition degrees from Indiana University (Master’s); The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, The Netherlands (European Bachelor’s); and UGA (Bachelor’s); and has studied film scoring at The University of Miami and privately with L.A. film composer Jack Smalley and Atlanta’s Jim Ellis, giving him experience in a wide range of styles and genres. In addition, Ryan was the founder of the UGA Philip Glass Ensemble, which in its two years gave over 30 performances, including six in China and two in New York City. As such, Ryan has performed and conducted throughout the United States and in China and The Netherlands.
In addition to this largely classically oriented education, Ryan is also an avid fan of rock and dance music (having DJ’ed in Atlanta, Indiana, and The Netherlands) and is currently recording with his upcoming indie dance rock band here in town (in which he writes, sings, and plays synthesizers). Additionally, Ryan has recently been signed on as a contributing author for the upcoming music publication HiFi Magazine.
